Help Cruse raise funds – with the Recycling Appeal

At last – a fundraising idea that costs you nothing, and involves minimal effort! By recycling your old mobile phones, printer and toner cartridges, and personal digital assistants (PDAs) you can help to raise vital funds for our charity.

Why Recycle?

While reducing the amount of waste we produce is everyone’s responsibility, the Recycling Appeal makes it easy. All items sent in are either immediately reused or will be recycled first. Those that can’t be reused or recycled will have all precious metals extracted and smelted for energy recovery. Cruse will receive a payment for every item that is recycled on our behalf. The amount will depend on the make and model (only Epson Inkjet can not be accepted).

Recycling facts

Around 5 million mobile phones will be bought over the Christmas season – yet fewer than 20% of all unused mobile phones in the UK are currently recycled.
Each discarded empty laser printer cartridge adds approximately three pounds of waste to our landfills.
Estimates state that close to 90 million phones are hiding in drawers and cupboards across the UK – these weigh almost six times as much as the London Eye.
More than 30 million inkjet cartridges are dumped each year in the UK – the same weight (1,800 tonnes) as 18 Blue Whales.
Approximately 3.5 litres of oil are required to produce each new laser printer cartridge and 90 ml of oil is used to produce each inkjet cartridge.
More than 1.1 billion inkjet cartridges are used annually around the world – laid end to end this would be 129 times as long as the Great Wall of China.

Contact the Recycling Appeal and you will be sent a freepost envelope for your items. So long as the value of the goods is more than £2 (you can check the valued amount on the recycling appeals website) then it can be returned to the Recycling Appeal and Cruse will start receiving payment.
Encourage your family and friends to get involved too – and your workplace. Go on to the Recycling Appeal website, click on recycle now – and select “other”. Type in Cruse Bereavement Care, fill in the details and you can then start recycling on behalf of Cruse.
