| Subject: My Dad
drunk and died
Hello, my name is Grace and I am 9. My mum is typing for me.
I was 6 when my Dad died from being an alcoholic. I was in Cornwall
going on my way to Tintagel and we got a message from the hospital
that my dad was going to die. He died that evening.
At school I cant concentrate on my work now because I have trouble
coming into school and I have to sit with my LSA to calm me down.
I would like to know if there are any people on this message board
who have been in the same situation as me.
Thankyou
Grace

Subject:My dad died too
Dear Grace,
My dad died just before my 14th birthday, I am now 25 but sometimes I still feel like the girl I was back then. I too had lots of problems at school after my dad died, I was bullied when people found out and I hated going to school because of this. When I was at school I couldn't concentrate either, all I did was think about my dad and get upset. What got me through it was knowing that my dad would have wanted me to get a good education and do well in my adult life. I felt as though my dad was smiling down at me when I passed 8 G.C.S.E's. You will in time make your dad very proud Grace, I know you will. It will hurt for a while yet but you will eventually do as I did and become a happy and confident young woman. Do it for your mum aswell, remember that she too is missing your dad and it will cause her more upset to think that your school work is suffering. Make everyone proud of you Grace. I'm here if you need a different shoulder to cry on. Take care xxxx
