Subject: birthday blues

Hey, does anyone have advice on how to cope with your first birthday after a death?
My mum killed herself in jan 2004 and its my birthday tomorow,everyone keeps saying how excited i must be and asks what presents i'll be getting. I just think its not fun or exciting, its lonly and painful and i dont care about presents a hug wil do! presents so dont matter, family and friends do.
I feel so down cos my mum would rather die than be here with me.. I just wish she said goodbye

my uncle did the same last year, we were so close .My birthday was soon after he died.I know how much it hurts to think about how they died and why!If u want 2 talk im here, it can sometimes help.hope your b-day was not too bad.

Hi,
I understand how you're feelin, my first birthday after losing my mum was grim. I'm wonderin how you managed to get through your birthday? I remember dreadin it like you but I kinda pretended it wasn't a special day, just to make it pass quicker. It was the same with Christmas; I think it's important to remember that special days in our lives are always goin to be more difficult that other days, but each of them is only one day - a measly 24 hours! I hope you managed to smile on your birthday.

I also wanted to say thanks for being such a warm and supportive user of this website, I know I'm not the only one who takes comfort from reading your msgs.
