it's been 7 years and still my thoughts go back to the times my best friend was with me. We had such a good connection. I feel stupid that for all the time that has passed and i get on with life my thoughts are still with her.

You shouldn't feel the slightest bit stupid, thats exactly how you should feel. You wouldn't want to forget your friend, its great that you can look back and think of her! I hope I get to that stage too.
