Subject: Learning to cope

HI soph, I lost my dad in 2003 when I was 16, he died of a heart attack in the early hours of the morning, and I found out by my mum screaming while I was getting ready for school several hours later. I'm now 21 and at uni with a boyfriend of 3 years, and I never thought back then that I would be able to carry on and make something of my life, but slowly I learned to come to terms with and accept that my dad is no longer here in person but his spirit hasn't left. It sounds crazy but positive things can come out of losing someone close. You'll become a stronger and more mature person. Try writing or listening to music and if you need to cry, cry. Things WILL get better for you. Concentrate on yourself and rebuilding your life. Good luck and take care, Liz x
