i turned to self harm aswell, lots of people do, although its not a good idea. i did it for over a year, untill my teacher found out an she supported me till i got to a stage where i felt i could start to deal with out using self harm as an answer.

hiya
dnt feel stupid hun, alot of ppl turn to self harm to deal with difficult things like wen sum1 dies. i self harmed since i was 12 im 18 now and stopped for about 2 yrs. but then my nan died and i started to do it again, BUT its not a good idea to do it as a way of coping because it becomes addictive. i urge u to tlk to sum1 a trusted mate or ur parents or a relative or even ur GP as wotever u say to them is in complete confidence unless its life threating or ur under 16. but pls hun get help before u become addicted to it. plus u wont be able to wear nice clothes without ugly scars!!!! summers comming and u wanna be able to wear clothes that dnt cover u up completeley
stay strong hun addy

p.s sorri if this post is a bit random in places, ive got such a headache lol.

hi i know exactly how you feel i used to and i now have horrible scars down my arms and i can't wear nice summer clothes anymore and in the long run just made me more unhappy. talk to friends and family about what ur doin and get help but if u can't instead of cutting urself hold ice cubes in ur hands until they melt so that ur still hurtin urself but its safer and doesn't scar. good luck for the future as things will get better.

Hi every1. I used to self harm regularly, so i understand the feeling of relief it gives you, however, i also understand the problems it can cause. please do not turn to self harm to help cope with the death of a loved one, there are much better ways. I am currently trying to give up self harming by doing sport instead. I find that taking excess anger out on a punch bag makes me feel better than after ive cut myself. please seek help if you are self harming.and if you need someone to talk to, im always here for you. You may also want to seek help on the web (NSHN-national self harm network) proved very helpful to a friend of mine. You mentioned that you felt stupid for self harming...please, don't blame yourself for self harming. It is our minds way of letting excess emotions out...its just the way we chose to let them out that is the problem. Try coming up with alternatives to let your emotions out, such as poetry, art, sport etc.
